We set out to find the best medical alert system with GPS tracking through hands-on testing, and we landed on Bay Alarm Medical as the champ.

We liked its audio quality, location accuracy, battery life, and the versatility of its new pendant designs. Plus, Bay Alarm Medical is one of the few medical alert companies to offer a price lock guarantee—and that's pretty important considering how often we've seen prices change in this industry.

We've listed our runners-up for best medical alert systems with GPS to help you find the one that speaks to your style, budget, and cellular needs.

1. Bay Alarm Medical SOS All-in-One: Best overall

Best GPS medical alert overall
Bay Alarm Medical SOS All-in-One
Starting from
$99 + $39.95
/mo

Bay Alarm Medical recently released its SOS All-in-One package, and it's just what we've been waiting for. Now that Bay Alarm Medical has paired its GPS device with a separate button, you can clip on a stylish Bella Charm and feel comfortable and protected all day long.

No ifs, ands, or buts about wearing your medical alert necklace when it looks so good!

In the meantime, you can keep the actual GPS and two-way talk unit in your purse, pocket, or tucked into the included belt clip.

How the Bay Alarm Medical GPS Button performed during testing

Screenshot: Cathy Habas, SafeWise

We had a chance to test the Bay Alarm Medical GPS device before the separate, chic button was released. Still, that means we got to try the most important part of this dynamic duo: the GPS tracker.

It accurately pinpointed our location during tests, but we'd love to see an update to Bay Alarm Medical's caregiver app so that it shows a satellite view on the map.

It also took nearly 2 minutes for the monitoring center to answer our call during one of our tests. You can see that in action in our video review on YouTube.

With all of that said, Bay Alarm Medical's representatives have always been polite, attentive, and easy to understand during our tests. This GPS medical alert is a good blend of price and features.

2. LifeFone At-Home and On-the-Go VIPx: Longest battery life

Longest battery life
LifeFone VIPx
Starting from
$45.95

The LifeFone At-Home and On-the-Go VIPx boasts a maximum 16-day battery life, leaving all the other medical alerts in its dust. When the battery gets low, you and your caregivers get texts, emails, and phone calls to remind you to charge it.

And it doesn't sacrifice features for battery life—GPS, Wi-Fi, and 4G LTE location tracking come standard in this sleek device.

Cost of LifeFone VIPx and caregiver tracking app

LifeFone's monthly monitoring fee is on the pricey side, but the equipment is free. Service starts at $45.95 per month for the monitoring service. You can knock that price down by opting for an annual subscription ($38.45 per month) or a quarterly subscription ($43.95 per month). But those payments will come in a higher lump sum.

Here's the main downside: the caregiver app costs an extra $8 a month, which pushes the total cost to over $50 a month. On the other hand, the app is useful for more than just GPS tracking. You can see your loved one's first motion of the day, track their steps, view the VIPx's battery level, ring a misplaced VIPx, and see a log of emergency button presses. Phew! You do get a lot for your investment.

Medical Guardian Mobile 2.0

Hear me out on this one: it's a great idea to combine a GPS medical alert device with in-home accessories like wall buttons, exactly like the Medical Guardian's Mobile 2.0. You get the benefits of a mobile and in-home medical alert system without paying for both.

Using the Mobile 2.0 at home and on the go

When you want to leave the house, take the station with you. It works just like Bay Alarm Medical's SOS All-in-One device in that regard. When you're home, the base station communicates with any standard buttons or voice-activated buttons you've placed throughout your home. While not strictly necessary, these buttons are great back-up options, especially if you're not sure you want to wear a pendant all the time.

4. Medical Guardian MGMove: Best medical alert watch with GPS

Best medical alert watch with GPS
Medical Guardian MGMove
Starting from
$199.95 + $39.95

The MGMove medical alert watch from Medical Guardian includes GPS tracking and a few other perks, but let's get one thing out of the way right now: it doesn't have fall detection.

If you're not concerned about falling when you're alone, the MGMove is a great choice for a professionally monitored medical alert watch. It tracks your steps, reminds you of appointments or medication, lets you send and receive messages, and of course keeps you just a button-press away from help during an emergency.

And let's not forget about its GPS tracking abilities. The nice thing about the MGMove is that your Care Circle only sees location updates every hour. When you push the SOS button, they can track you in real time. You preserve some privacy while also letting your loved ones check in on you. newest GPS alert device is portable, simple, and accessible.

Try AngelSense if you're purchasing a GPS tracker for someone prone to wander, which often happens when seniors experience dementia or Alzheimer's. This lightweight device isn't professionally monitored, but its caregiver app is excellent and full of features that will help you find someone who's lost and uncommunicative.

AngelSense is one of the only GPS trackers on the market with reliable indoor tracking and the ability to share a tracking link with other people during an emergency.

Other AngelSense features were designed primarily for kids, but you may find them useful for your older loved one too, like an automatic listen-in feature.

AngelSense recently released a watch that's also a good option for GPS tracking and automatic 2-way calling.

6. Aloe Care Health: Best app

Best app

Aloe Care Health's Mobile Companion is budget-friendly to begin with, but it's also the only medical alerts with GPS device on our list that comes with automatic fall detection at no extra charge. You get a lot of value for a $100 up-front fee and about $30 per month.

Aloe Care's caregiver app is our favorite out of the medical alert companies

Screenshot: Cathy Habas, SafeWise

Of all the GPS medical alert devices and apps that we tested, the Aloe Care Health app was the only one that exported directions to Google Maps or Apple Maps.

(Note that we removed the street names from our screenshots for privacy, but you'll be able to see them on the app.)

Aloe Care Health is also unique in that caregivers can initiate a three-way call with the monitoring center. Loved ones also get real-time push notifications whenever the help button is pressed, allowing them to stay up-to-date on what's happening and what kind of action the monitoring center has taken with this GPS medical alert device.

Final word

If you’re an active older adult, choosing a medical alert system with GPS keeps help close by without limiting your mobility. Your loved ones will feel better knowing that you have access to emergency services with the press of a button.

Bay Alarm Medical's SOS All-in-One does all of that while balancing affordability and quality.

How we reviewed the best GPS medical alert devices

The best medical alert system with GPS should give you the freedom to do the things you enjoy the most in and out of your home.

We weighed our options by looking at each candidate’s location technologies, companion apps, and automatic fall detection—then we sought out affordable prices on top of these features. We tested Aloe Care Health and Bay Alarm Medical equipment hands-on.

Keep these priorities in mind as you choose what works best for you:

  • The GPS medical alert systems with strong location technology bring help to you faster.
  • A companion app shares your location with loved ones who can come help you.
  • Automatic fall detection sends for help if you fall down or lose consciousness after a fall.

Mobile medical alert system FAQ

How does GPS work with a medical alert system?

A GPS medical alert system pairs location technology like GPS tracking with a medical alert system that connects to a monitoring center. The medical alert device uses cellular signals like your smartphone to pinpoint your location.

When you press the medical alert button, it sends your location to monitoring professionals who can share your information with emergency responders.

GPS medical alert devices and at-home systems have the same job: getting you help when you need it. When it comes down to it, GPS devices versus at-home systems boil down to where you can call help from.

Basically, you can call for help from anywhere in or outside your home with a GPS system while at-home devices need to stay in range of the base station.

Learn more about the types of medical alert systems and how they work.

Yes. When combined with features like a companion app and automatic fall detection, a mobile medical alert system can prevent your loved one from wandering and help you find them if they lose their way.
